Since I am unable to find suitable employment, I decided to take classes this semester. I am enjoying going to class, doing homework and actually accomplishing things in my day.
One shot
I was not submitted for a position based on the fact that I will be attending college this fall, the prospective employer is not flexible in scheduling…even though my classes are after 5pm. Sucks for them, I would have made a great employee.
My Job Registry
This is the list of items that I need fulfilled for my Job Shower.
1. An introduction to someone in the broadcasting field.
2. A contact that will barter for a headshot. I will need this for my portfolio.
3. An introduction interview with someone in PR, Media or Broadcasting.
4. A volunteer project that I can work on while pursuing my new career.
(I have an opportunity to take a DJ Bootcamp to volunteer DJ at Radio Phoenix. As I am unemployed I do not have the funds to take this class. However, I am asking for donations from people that would like to sponsor me.) I personally don’t like asking for help, but I feel this opportunity is one that will take me to the next level.

This may seem like I am asking for the moon…but I am confident in my skills, I am confident in myself and I am confident in what I can accomplish for the company that will choose me as their employee.
In return for these Job Registry items, I can offer a multitude of offerings…just name something that you would like in return.
Job Shower
Found this article about “Job Showers”, I have now decided that I am going to try this. I will be inviting people that I have as contacts to fill my “Job Registry”. If you receive an invitation from me it isn’t a joke, or a game but an opportunity for you to help me, and for me to help you.
Kind of like paying it forward…I ask you for let’s say an employment lead…I return the favor with something that I can give you.
I think it will be a great opportunity for me to network with more people.
Opportunites
This weekend I will be going to Laid Off Camp Phoenix http://www.azcentral.com/community/gilbert/articles/2009/08/06/20090806laidoffcamp0807.html I personally think it will be a blast. Getting together with others that are in the same boat as myself, trying new and different approaches to finding suitable employment and just getting out of the house. There will be some really great speakers there, including Pam Slim who I have heard speak previously at Ignite Phoenix.
Photoshoot for AZ Magazine
Jane and Al Anderson from Compass Consulting met me at Modavox studios yesterday for a photoshoot for AZ Magazine. This was exciting, fun and memorable for me. Who knows one day you may hear me broadcasting, you just never know. The issue of AZ Magazine will be coming out in September, I will keep everyone posted as to where they can view the article on Career Makeovers.
The Pinked-In Party
I would say that this is a good way for unemployed people to get out there. Even if you don’t talk to that many recruiters, it is a great way to network with people that are in your field. I met several people that I already had exposure to, as well as some new people.
I give the Pinked-In Party a 10, you can’t beat the cost…$5.00. If you are going to network, and lord knows when you are unemployed you need to get bang for your buck.
Looking forward to the next event!
Apprehension
Well, tomorrow will be interesting I think. I am going to my first Pinked-In Party. What is a Pinked-In Party? Check it out here http://www.compassconsultingteam.com/page/17/pinkedin
Pinked-In Party Checklist
$5
Can of food
Resume
Business cards
Apprehension pills?
I must say I am a little nervous, most people do get nervous in new situations. I know that when I get there that will change, I am definitely not a wall flower by any means. I like to get in there; shake hands, schmooze and tell everyone what is exceptional about me.
Now all I have to do is find something business casual to wear. That might be an issue since my last job I wore logo polos almost every day. I guess my closet needs a going through!
I will add more about Pinked-In after the event.
Laughing Out Loud
I got a call from one of the employment agencies that I have been working with for the last 9 months today.
“Hi Cynthia, are you still available for work?”, said the caller. I responded, “Yes.”
“We have a position in Chandler doing payroll for 230 people, name your price.”
Hmm. Oh, by the way the position is only for 6 weeks. They are submitting my resume, my old one. Wonder if I will get an interview?
So, today I was called for an interview with the company. However, they will not pay me what I am worth because of their budgetary constraints. I asked when the interview would be, recruiter says, “That is what we are trying to determine.” Okay call me back when you figure that one out.
By the way they never called back, after I left them messages…sad.
